because behaving is boring

Monthly Archives: September 2010

…Are quite possibly the most annoying fans in the NFL.  Monday night’s game wasn’t even over before my Facebook news feed was overrun with “3-0 BABY” and “OMG Undefeated!” posts. Seriously, y’all…I understand that you’re excited. Still, the Steelers and the Chiefs  are both 3-0 right now and I haven’t heard a peep from their fans.

The thing is, your record right now (at the beginning of the season) isn’t going to matter later. I mean, is 3-0 going to help when the playoffs start and your team isn’t in? Out of the three 3-0 teams left I think the Steelers have the best chance for the playoffs… I’m absolutely not a fan and I’d actually like to see the Chiefs make it but I’m trying to be realistic.

The one bright spot about Monday’s game is that the StepDads claimed another win, mostly thanks to Aaron Rodgers making that touchdown. I don’t know why I didn’t play fantasy football before now… But I think I’ll be doing this every football season from now on.

So I’ve decided that whenever I can’t think of something to post I’ll just pull out a weird and random fact about myself and write about it…I doubt I’ll ever run out of material that way. What can I say? I’m weird.

Today’s weird and random factioid is this: I LOVE pore strips. Actually, I kind of love popping zits. I know it’s gross, but I can entertain myself quite easily by sitting on my bathroom sink and examining my face for pimples and blackheads. I have two magnifying mirrors (one that’s fancy with lights) and this little tool… Zit Popper

I picked up some pore strips last night at the store and used three. One on the forehead, one on the nose and one on the ol’ chin. I’m always a little disappointed at the amount of gunk that ends up on the strip so (even though the box says to only use them once a week or whatever) I’m going home tonight to try them again. This time, I’m going to steam the crap out of my face first so my pores are open and more willing to let go of their gunk. I’m also going to cut the strips to fit my face better and then I’m going to cover most of face with them. NO BLACKHEAD IS SAFE!

I’ve been sitting at my desk today plotting the Great Blackhead Removal ’10 practically all day and I’m pretty damn excited about it… But it is Monday and tonight the Bears and Packers play. I’m thinking I need to at least stop and watch part of the game because A.) my fantasy football win this week is going to depend on my two Green Bay players and B.) I can’t stand the Bears and would quite enjoy watching the game if they lose.

Either way…I’m going to be doing some serious blackhead busting in the very near future.

Also, because I didn’t get to it last night (lazy):

My weekend has been consumed by baking, roasting and football watching. I did take a fairly brief break to drink a few (well deserved, in my opinion) beers at a friend’s house but I was too tired to really be much fun.  I decided to try a new brew… Monty Python’s Holy Grail Ale was suggested to me by a friend and it did not disappoint, but it was a little heavier than I was expecting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a girl that will happily order a Guinness if it’s on tap but I have to be in the right mood.

I’ll be posting about the cupcakes I made a little later… They seriously took all day to decorate but it was worth it to see my mom’s reaction. Her birthday was last Monday but with my Chicago trip I wasn’t able to really do anything special for her. I’ve been looking for a reason to make these cupcakes for a while and it seemed like the perfect time to try them out.

Yesterday, during my cupcake-a-thon I acquired some chestnuts freshly fallen from the tree in my aunt and uncle’s yard…I had every intention of roasting them last night before heading to Lisa’s but that didn’t quite work out. I brought about half of them to my mom and dad’s house and roasted them in the oven during half time of the Colts game. Note to self: when roasting chestnuts, make sure to poke the holes deep enough to get all the way through the shell…otherwise they’ll explode while roasting.

I had such high hopes for the chestnuts…I remember my grandparents roasting them for my brother and I when we were little. While they tasted pretty much exactly the way I remember, I actually didn’t like them as much as I thought I would.

My Colts won today… I was a bit disappointed with both Brown and Addai (both are on my fantasy football team) but Blair White came out of nowhere and Collie had a pretty good game. I was also pleasantly surprised by our defense.

When I get home there will be pictures…for now I’m off to clean the exploded chestnut guts from the inside of my mom’s oven.

Am I the only person that didn’t know they make *flavored* colored decorating sugar? I was buying the ingredients for some cupcakes I’m making tomorrow and when I picked up the blue sugar I noticed that it’s raspberry flavored. I’m not sure how that’s going to taste but we’ll see…

In other news…I ate an entire frozen pizza (ok, I baked it first) for dinner. Then I ate a drumstick since I thought it would be the perfect remedy for the roof of my mouth since I burnt it on lava hot cheese. *sigh*

Also, it’s after 3:00 am and I’m about to watch the 4th episode in a row of Veronica Mars. On a FRIDAY NIGHT.

How am I still single?!

  • Feeling like a real city girl carrying my CTA card around…And I mentioned this yesterday but I LOVED taking the L everywhere.
  • Successfully hailing a couple of taxis by myself.
  • The FOOD. Oh my goodness I pigged out. I had two hot dogs at Wrigley on Friday, mini corndogs and Old Style Saturday, an amazing eggs benedict at a place called Eggsperience (and then caramelized apple pecan pancakes at that same place much later that evening) and a pretty decent pot roast dinner at Ed Debevic’s.
  • Dave singing Burning Down the House and the encore with Warehouse/Stairway to Heaven (Friday show)
  • The crowd singing Jimi Thing, Last Stop as the final song of the encore. Also, watching the band after the show was over (Saturday show)
  • Meeting two awesome new friends and spending most of the weekend with them…. They live close to me so I hope to continue to hang out with them.
  • Checking out the SkyDeck at the Sears (er…Willis) Tower.
  • Shopping at Sports Authority (eight stories of sporting goods? LOVE)

I really wish I could have spent more time there… Three days just wasn’t enough. Maybe I’ll be able to take a week of vacation sometime and go back.

On a slightly scary note, Saturday night a man was arrested for planting a bomb outside of Wrigley as the concert was letting out. I just saw the story today:

I’m home from Chicago (made it home yesterday evening, just in time for the Colts game) and I’m already trying to figure out how I can get back. I love everything about the city… from the seemingly limitless different things to do to the public transportation system. Actually, the train is probably my favorite part of Chicago…You never know what you’ll find while riding the train. At one point, my friend and I encountered a team of female arm wrestlers promoting a charity event. One (named Strawberry Shitcake) even demonstrated her strength by doing 25 push-ups on the floor.

Perhaps later I will write about the weekend in more detail but the reason for this particular update is this: I am incredibly annoyed by today…The fact that I’m back in Indiana, that my day started off in a crappy way and definitely that I’m at work. Merry Christmas, y’all, here’s a list of my complaints:

1. My shower head broke… I had no time to fix it so I had to do a quick “sink bath” and I feel rather icky.

2. I blocked my coworkers from being able to see my wall and pictures on Facebook this weekend since I called in “sick”. I was informed when I got to work today that one such coworker was still able to see everything through his live feed. Thanks Facebook. JERKS.

3. My arms are breaking out in hives like crazy.

4. I have absolutely zero desire to be at work.

5. Apparently, a coworker that I’m not friendly with has been telling everyone she “did a good deed” and basically did my job for me when I was gone on Friday. She did not, but she’s doing her best to make sure she gets all of the credit.

I could go on but those are the major complaints… When I’m home snuggled up with my favorite blanket watching Veronica Mars on Netflix I’ll likely be in a better mood. Maybe then I’ll get some Chicago pics uploaded.

So I obviously haven’t been very good at keeping this thing updated…I could probably come up with a million excuses (I’m so good at that!) but the truth is, I’ve just been lazy. Oh, sure, I’ve updated my Facebook account about a hundred times a day since I last posted here but…Well, that involves less work.

It’s been about a year. Not much has really changed…I am no longer at school because I realized a couple of things. One, I really hated a lot of the prerequisite IT courses and couldn’t force myself to plow through them. Two, that school is a joke. I won’t go too far into it, but when the books were printed in 2005 and the newest OS covered is Windows 2000…Not good. I’m looking at another school that is FAR cheaper and actually looks credible. I’m also dropping the IT stuff…Marketing sounds fun. I know, at 29 I should at least have an idea of what I want to do with my life but I still don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.

I still work at the school…So by day I’m a mild-mannered cubicle dweller but at night? Um, I’m a mild-mannered couch dweller / internet junkie. What did you think I’d say? That I’m a super hero?

Tomorrow I’m playing hooky from work to do something I’ve been looking forward to for ages… A friend and I are headed to Chicago for the weekend to see Dave Matthews Band (and Jason Mraz) and Wrigley Field. Can. Not. Wait. My friend is picking me up at 10:00 am and I haven’t packed a single thing…I did manage to do a load of laundry, though. I need to go to bed so I can attempt to be ready when he gets here but I keep accidentally clicking the Play Next Episode button on my Netflix. Damn you, Veronica Mars, for keeping me up ’til after 2:00 am!
